Suspenders Guide for Beginners

Choosing the right size of suspenders can be challenging if you’re unsure of what to get. But there’s no need to stress, we are the experts! In order to find your true size it is crucial to know how to measure yourself properly. There are different types of suspenders, but the most popular include clip-end suspenders and button-end suspenders that require simple, different measuring techniques.

Clip Suspenders

For clip suspenders, use a soft tape measure (beginning at 0 inch) and start at the top of the pants in the back and run it over the opposite shoulder and down to the front while standing with normal posture. This measurement will give you the length needed for your suspenders (Ex: 44 inches).

The best way to measure is by using a flexible tape measure. Don’t have one? Use a string instead and lay it down on a table to measure with a ruler or even a tape measure.

For button suspenders, you need to measure a bit further than you would with clip suspenders. Start by measuring in the back from the middle of the waistband, over your shoulder, and back around to the front.

Choose Between Leather or Elastic

suspenders

You can choose from either leather or elastic suspenders, each having their own characteristics.

The elastic suspenders have a wide fit range and the adjuster can move anywhere from 10-12 inches on your body. Leather suspenders do not stretch at all. They adjust with a buckle that has a certain amount of holes you’re able to adjust with.

It is crucial to know that there is no such thing as one size fits all- never listen to stores who try to tell you that! Every person’s body is different therefore you must find your true match. Another key fact about suspenders is that they can only be shortened and never lengthened, so make sure to get a size that you are able to adjust if needed. It is always safer to round up because you can make them shorter!

Now that you have found your correct measurements and decided between leather or elastic, you can find your perfect suspenders!
